What is WaW all about?

Written by Charley Miller, July 2024

Wildlife and Wellbeing (WaW) Community Interest Company (CIC) was set up in 2024 in response to the growing climate, biodiversity and human mental health crises. Our aim is to connect people with their local wildlife, for the benefit of their health and wellbeing. Environmental health and wellbeing also benefits from more humans being connected to nature and understanding the impact they as individuals have – both negative and positive – on the natural world.

What we do

We run nature connection events where people learn about their local wildlife and practice mindfulness techniques. We’re starting in Salisbury, where we are based.

Why us?

We believe that we have the skills, passion and experience to make a meaningful difference to the lives of many people. We are keen to share our knowledge to benefit human and environmental health and wellbeing.

Who is WaW for?

WaW is for anyone who might benefit from being more connected to nature and gaining more control of their health and wellbeing. Which is probably everyone! Once we have established a model that works, we intend to seek to reach people who might not otherwise access us. This includes (and is not limited to) people new to the UK, new parents, older people and people on low incomes.

How can I get involved?

The possibilities are endless!

Some of you know that currently Wildlife and Wellbeing is officially just me, Charley Miller. So, you might wonder why I am writing “we” when there’s only one person… There are already a couple of key people behind the scenes helping me – thank you Tanay and Ridz! My aim is for there to be more people in the team very soon – definitely volunteers and hopefully more paid staff too. Who and when depends on who’s interested and what you want to do! E.g. if a toddler group is what the community needs, I’ll recruit someone to take that on (I love all people, but am better with older kids and adults!).

How can I share my thoughts?

Please use the email contact form or give me a call/text on 07564 688958 if you have ideas and/or needs to share with me. I’m juggling WaW with 2 other jobs – at Hazel Hill Wood and Bikeability – so might not respond instantly. (Check out my LinkedIn profile if you’d like to know more about my work experience.)

We (I) have got to start somewhere, so I’ve taken a guess at what might work initially. See our events page for more…

Stay wild and well!
