Mondays 5.45-7.15pm in 4 week blocks. Next 4 week block:

Spring 2025, dates TBC in Feb

A face-to-face outdoor weekly group session for adults who are keen to learn about wildlife, practice mindfulness and improve their wellbeing. Rough schedule:

  • 5.45pm – arrive, hot drink and homemade snack (2 areas for informal chat or intentional silence – your choice)
  • 6pm – wildlife activity
  • 6.45pm – mindfulness practice
  • 7pm – reflections and intention setting
  • 7.10pm – one word check out
  • 7.15pm – finish

See here for a write up from our inaugural 8 sessions in 2024.

Wildlife activities will vary by season and could include tree identification, butterfly survey, bird watching and learning how to record wildlife and maximise the impact of your new knowledge. We’ll have a rough plan for each season, and adapt to the weather and what we see on the day (e.g. butterflies on a sunny summer evening, trees whatever the weather or season).

Mindfulness practices will be guided and focused on tuning into the senses and the present moment. We’ll also use breathing exercises and gentle movement for relaxation and to manage symptoms of stress, including to release tension in the body and lower heart rate.

Who is it for?

This group is for adults interested in wildlife and wellbeing who want to spend time in nature with others, learning new things. We value diversity, and hope to create a community that reflects the breadth of people in our society. Please share any medical, mobility, dietary or other needs on booking, so we can plan activities (and snacks!) that are suitable for all.

Where?

The meeting location is less than half a mile from Salisbury city centre bus stops and 1 mile from Salisbury train station. The exact location will be shared on booking. The sessions are not in a static location; we will be moving around for part of the session. Please arrive by active travel and/or public transport if possible. Bicycle parking is available. Paid car parking is available.

Basic benches will be available for sitting on at the start and end of the session.

FAQs

Can I book one session?

Due to the group nature and continuation from one session to the next, these Monday evening sessions are booked in a block of 4 only. Please see our other Events, including free online events, which may give you an idea of whether Wildlife and Wellbeing is for you.

Can I arrive late?

Again, due to the group nature and continuation from one session to the next, ideally everyone will attend the full duration of each session. Once everyone has arrived, we’ll get started and after a short introduction we’ll move away from the start location.

Do we go ahead in the rain?

We believe in getting out whatever the weather! Please assume the session is going ahead unless you hear otherwise by email the day before. We may postpone if the weather forecast is really wet/stormy, but will go ahead in most weathers e.g. light rain, showers.

Anything else?

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, e.g. about coming alone. We can chat and suggest solutions to help you attend, on a 1:1 basis. Contact Charley on 07519 464023 or wildlifeandwellbeing@gmail.com
